PSP Firmware v2.70 Released - April 25, 2006
On 04.24.06, Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) released a major update (v2.70) for the PlayStation Portable (PSP). Once PSP owners update their PSP, they will be able to playblack Macromedia Flash files through the WebBrowser and save Podcasts to the Memory Stick through the RSS Channel. Video Podcast support has not been added yet, but should be included in the next update. Full v2.70 ChangeLog below:
PSP Firmware v2.70 ChangeLog:
- You can now play Macromedia Flash content under [Internet Browser]. *Note that you must adjust a setting to enable this feature. A connection to the internet is required to adjust the setting.
- [Connection Settings] has been added under [Settings] in [Internet Browser].
- You can now save content added under [RSS Channel] on a Memory Stick.
- [Automatic] has been added as an option under [Rate] in [Location Free Player].
- [UMD Video L/R Button] has been added under [Video Settings] in [Settings]. You can now disable the channel skip feature of the L/R buttons. (This applies to UMD VIDEO.)
- A new file extension has been added to playable AAC formats.
- [Simplified Chinese] and [Traditional Chinese] have been added as options under [System Language] in [Settings] > [System Settings].
- [RSS Channel Settings] has been added under [Settings].
With this update, it seems as though Sony is sticking with their PSP Timeline Plan they had presented in the 2006 PlayStation Business Briefing. To update your PSP to v2.70 either visit the U.S. PlayStation Software Update page or to [Settings] > [Network Update] on you PSP. Updating does have a major draw back, homebrew that worked on v2.60 PSPs using the GTA exploit will no longer function. If you do update you won’t be able to run any homebrew applications until PSP hackers release a new exploit. But if you don’t wish to run homebrew you might as well update. Both the Macromedia Flash Player and the Save Feature for the RSS Channel are great new addons. (Stream iTunes to PSP will now allow saving files.)

just thought i should let people know. when you upgrade your PSP firmware to version 2.7, you can still stream the iTunes for your PC to your PSP, but you cant save the file. it will save the file,play if for the first few seconds then display coruptted data.after this, it wouldnt play it again.so there is really no use of trying to save a file from iTunes on your PSP.it wouldnt play/work.

Fantastic that Flash is now available on the PSP, feel there is so much can be done & I have a few ideas in mind of my own. But & big but I’d have to get rid of my Genesis & Snes emulators :o(
The price still aint worth it!
Perhaps when the PS1 emulator becomes available but looks like I’m Flash free for now.

Thanks for the information. We had tested the save feature for the iTunes-PSP Server out, but it seemed to work fine at the time. But now I too am running into the same issue. I am not sure what is the problem, but until we figure it out, use the stream feature which still works.

2.7 rocks. Flash has taken the PSP to a wholenew level, although the PDA functionability would have been a great addition. Sony should also develop a larger capacity ram (which currently maxes out at 2050 or so) via the memory stick slot. Due to the small ram some content will say ‘there is not enough memory’, although 2.7 is still a great addition to the endless possibilities on the psp

I’ll tell ya what they need 2 do is enable us to send or copy music to each others memory sticks without using a computer now that would be cool!! And let us have moving backgrounds.

after learning there was flash on 2.7 i immediatly upgraded but now my homebrew wont work

DON’T UPDATE YOUR FIRMWARE. I thought flash would be great since I thought you could play flash games online. But every game says “not enough memory.” So now I can’t play my hombrews or flash games!

If you upgrade to 2.7 and go to peekvid.com you can see there flash videos of lost, desperate housewives and more. I dont want to upgrade until somone can cheak if this is true.

I don’t know if this is a 2.7 specific problem, but I can’t get any of the Google Video downloads (in MP4 format) to work on it. Yes I’ve changed the filename, and I’ve tried it in both the “ANV” and “MNV” folders. I just get “there is no video” on my PSP. Any idea??

ok ever since i got the update version 2.70 i cant open my web browser or when i go to RSS channel it loads for a second and freezes. also i called customer support and they couldnt figure it out.

If you go to web aim.cop with the psp you can use a psp version of aim called silicon monkey its slow but works!
ps. cant wait till the USB keyboard comes out! :D

2.7 sounds great, but i dunno if i want to kill my homebrew! Does anyone know if a hack is avaliable to run homebrew on 2.7 yet?

i know theres a hack for the 2.7 - 2.71 if you have a special motherboard that was built on early pc’s, i got mine early so i downgraded and got my m\loving gta cheatdevice and homebrews back!!! hazzah!! :)
ps. cant wait till the usb keyboards out either :D
